Female Great Crested Flycatcher at Nesting Box

Another Flycatcher Adventure

This is my Male Great Crested Flycatcher checking on his woman who is in the nesting box.

This is the Female Flycatcher trying to figure out where the w-r-r-r sound from my camera is coming from. I'm sitting in my car close to her nesting box shooting away.

In the mean time... my sweet little male Bluebird is patiently waiting for his meal worms.

Well...just what are you doing and where are my meal worms, he asks, as he peeks in my car??

Backyard Woodland Adventures

Finally spotted my male & female Great Crested Flycatcher together at the nest box! Although the lighting wasn't the best...you can see the males crest.
I can't wait till they have their babies and I hope they aren't as elusive as their parents!

Oh yes...and here we have the Redheaded Woodpecker...aka meal worm thief...

and proud of it as you can see!!!

No wonder my Bluebird Daddy has to grab so many meal worms at once...after all...he has a lot of mouths to feed!!!

Stay tuned for more of my backyard woodland adventures.

My Elusive Great Crested Flycatcher's

I feel very blessed to have these birds choose to nest in one of my nesting boxes...however they are very elusive and difficult to photograph.
Here are a few shots of the Great Crested Flycatcher Female...minus the crest. lol

It seems only the male has a crest...but...they both have a yellow belly which you only see part of in this pictures.

I certainly have enough bugs to maintain their steady diet of flying insects!

I'll have to work harder to capture a photo of the male...perhaps when the eggs are hatched I'll have better luck.

Stay tuned for more nesting adventures starring...The Great Crested Flycatcher!

Welcome To My Woodland Bird Sanctuary

Thought you would like to meet a few characters that share my little bird sanctuary in the woods.
This is my rowdy Redheaded Woodpecker...who doesn't always like to share!
He often bullies my Bluebirds and steals their meal worms.

As you can see he is jealously guarding his little cabin from the Bluebirds.

This is my handsome male Eastern Bluebird.

Although they look like Western Bluebirds...don't let the hat fool you...they are actually a pair of Eastern Bluebirds.

My sweet little Bluebird guarding the hat and his meal worms from the Redheaded bully.

Blue Boy looks on as Big Red gives him a look that says...don't even think about coming over here!!

As you can see my backyard birds provide me with ample photo ops and a lot of entertainment.

Redheaded Welcome for a Redhead

I flew in on the wings of US Air and was greeted by the welcoming wings of my Redheaded Woodpecker.

My vacation seemed much to short...but...my backyard birds seemed to think it was too long.
This fella came down from his suet to say hello....
and to steal my Bluebirds meal worms.
Shame...shame little Redhead!

Well...it's back to my little woodland home in the Carolina's.

Once Upon a Deer

Suddenly I caught sight of a deer not too far off the road...what could it be doing...frozen in that position without looking up??

Finally she looks up but stays frozen in the same position. Hmm...something is going on...but what?

Could she possibly have a fawn with her???

This doe is acting very strange!

Oh my...could that be a small ear I see sticking out of the tall grass??

By the way...you can click on the pics to see them larger.

Oh my goodness...it is a fawn...I'm so excited!!!!!!!!!

How exciting and unexpected...a doe and her fawn!!!! Mom decides it's time for them to move on...and off they go.

Whoops...better let baby catch up.

Come on little one...it's humans...gotta get out of here.

Oh no...where's my Mommy???
Mommy...maa-maaa...where are you???

I see her...but...she's so far away!

Wait for me...I'm so scared and I'm really hungry!!!

Yeah...my Mommy and milk at last!!!!!!!!!!

...and they lived happily ever after. lol

Welcome to Woodland Photography

What a delightful little fellow...could it be Chip or Dale? Only those of you who are old enough will remember Chip & Dale!

This is the male Rose-breasted Grosbeak and his mate. My first shots of this pair...they're not part of my backyard community.

If you are wondering what in the world this little bird could be...you're not the only one! I was told this was an immature Indigo Bunting.

This cute little bird was difficult for me to photograph...he's small and dark...and we were in the woods. I was so excited...I've never seen an Indigo Bunting up close!

Oh Deer...Another Dry Run Adventure

I had another great adventure at Dry Run...finding this lovely Doe to photograph. Of course I was thrilled with this gorgeous pose.
Oh how majestic I thought...that is...until I zoomed in and noticed the undignified mouthful of leaves that kinda spoiled my perfect picture.

I guess she had the last laugh as you can see!

Sibling Rivalry

Wildlife in PA

WOW...what a wild & wonderful wildlife photography adventure I had today in picturesque Pennsylvania!!!

Orange you glad you stopped by to share my experience? This male & female Baltimore Oriole are certainly enjoying their morning OJ;-) lol I guess this Catbird didn't want to be excluded from OJ at the Breakfast Post!

These cute little Finches were irresistible sitting on a Harry Lauder walking stick.

Finally...ending the day on a perfect note...we drove to Dry Run to photograph this willing subject. She must have been patiently posing for me...knowing that in this low light setting I would have difficulty getting a shot of her.

It was certainly a prefect ending to a perfect day!!!
